Designed for Improved Performance, Scalability, and Insight

DataMiner-Dash for z/OS version 8.5.3 builds on recent performance-focused releases with a set of enhancements designed to improve script flexibility, processing efficiency, and integration with enterprise data environments .

This release includes targeted improvements that simplify complex scripting scenarios and support larger, more diverse workloads:

⚙️ Optimized table handling , with further improvements to table-search logic and enhanced TABLE support, including pre-loading tables before each task and support for sorting data into tables
�� Expanded script and syntax flexibility , including field qualification using fieldname(filename) syntax, more comprehensive statement continuation support, relaxed placement rules for FILE EXIT USING fields, and support for percent signs ( % ) in field, procedure, and GOTO names
�� Enhanced file and dataset processing , including support for additional dataset types (such as IAM and 2BDB2), expanded concurrent file processing options, and improved handling of DD statement parameters (including FREE=CLOSE )
�� Stronger external and database integration , with updates supporting external AMODE 24 program calls, enhanced DB2 access (including SQL INCLUDE support), and more robust IMS/DLI database statement handling

In addition to these focused improvements, version 8.5.3 also introduces refinements across reporting, validation, macro handling, diagnostics, and message clarity—further improving usability while maintaining compatibility with existing scripts.

Together, these enhancements provide customers with greater control, scalability, and adaptability when working with DataMiner-Dash in evolving z/OS environments.

DataMiner-Dash 8.5.3 continues CSI’s commitment to delivering practical, performance-conscious enhancements driven by real-world customer needs.

Designed for Improved Performance, Scalability, and Insight

DataMiner-Dash for z/OS version 8.5.2 introduces Series 3 performance enhancements focused on improving execution efficiency, scalability, and operational visibility for data-intensive workloads.

This release emphasizes architectural and usability improvements that help organizations better manage complex processing environments:

⚙️ Series 3 performance enhancements , including optimized assignment and IF/DO processing, streamlined script execution paths, enhanced QSAM I/O handling, configurable buffer management (BUFNO), and improved instruction-cache utilization
�� Expanded concurrent file processing , allowing up to six input files by default, with optional configuration support for additional files
�� Direct dataset access for RRDS and ESDS VSAM datasets, reducing the need for intermediate processing steps
�� New internal execution statistics , enabling scripts to report command counts, runtime data, and TCB/SRB usage via the enhanced OPTION LIST STATS parameter
�� Report Writer enhancements , including expanded BREAK and SUMFILE support, numeric-field validation with optional validation procedures, and support for static work fields (user variables)
�� Improved script traceability , with installed software fix numbers now displayed in script-listing page titles
�� More flexible field definitions , with relaxed syntax rules for OCCURS and INDEX parameters

Together, these updates provide customers with greater control, visibility, and flexibility when working with DataMiner-Dash in z/OS environments—supporting ongoing optimization efforts without changing existing workflows.

CSI releases TCP/IP for VSE 2.3.3

CSI's TCP/IP FOR VSE 2.3.3 runs on a range of operating system versions including VSE ⁿ V6.3 and IBM's z/VSE V6.2. TCP/IP FOR VSE 2.3.x will also run on previous z/VSE versions.

Although previous z/VSE versions are no longer supported by IBM's technical support, CSI will support these previous TCP/IP FOR z/VSE versions (excluding operating system issues).

This 16-month programs utilizes classroom and practical training best practices to provide apprentices with the tools and skills they need to work as entry-level developers in our organization.

The program follows a semester-like scheme used at most colleges and universities. We are working with a local university to provide college credit for all of the classes we teach. John Rankin—the founder of CSI International—uses his decades of experience and education to instruct these students.

In 1995 CSI’s development group embarked upon creating TCP/IP for the VSE environment, with the idea of a solution designed specifically for VSE. Rather than approach this monumental task by using other designs and implementations, CSI developed TCP/IP using only the Standard RFC documents without reference to any other implementation. The result is a product used worldwide with unmatched performance, stability, and functionality. Today, TCP/IP for z/VSE is the most flexible comprehensive solution for the IBM z series platform, performing and delivering a more effective system over any IBM offering on any of IBM’s platforms.

On August 31st, 2021, The United States Patent and Trademark Office recognized the value and significance of this innovative design with a U.S. Patent (US 11,108,671). The internal design for TCP/IP for z/VSE still stands alone in the world as a unique solution. CSI International is pleased to announce the acquisition of several mainframe products from Software Pursuits, Inc., a legendary innovator in the mainframe industry. Software Pursuits has graciously transferred ownership of SPRI (including SPRI-RJE and SPRI-QVIEW), PLF, and DOCS to CSI International. We are excited that Software Pursuits has trusted these important products to us for continuing support and development well into the future. This year has seen many product enhancements and new products come from our development team. Adding these new offerings allows CSI International to continue its role as the leader in z/VSEâ solutions and innovations. As we train new developers in our in-house academy, these product additions allow these fresh developers to experience—along with our current portfolio—some of the most stable and functional software available in our market! In addition, our sales and marketing team is excited to present these new solutions to existing and new customers. It’s been an exciting year for CSI International! But the year has not yet ended. CSI Launches Mainframe Apprenticeship Program

Dear Valued Clients, Partners, and Vendors:

As many of you are aware, finding great talent for our industry can be challenging. With only a few institutions offering structured training for mainframe technologists, we must seek creative ways to maintain a rich and diverse workforce that will propel our industry forward for many years to come.

CSI International has created an apprenticeship program that will train tomorrow’s software developers for work in our mainframe industry. This program is 16 months of classroom and practical training designed to provide successful candidates the tools and skills to work as entry-level developers in our organization.

The structure of the program is similar to a semester scheme used at most colleges and universities. We are working with a local university to provide college credit for all of the classes we teach. John Rankin—the founder of CSI International—will take his decades of experience and education and act as the instructor for this program.

This week CSI International welcomed the first class of apprentices into the program. These bright and energetic minds have initiated a journey that will provide them with a powerful skillset, and provide our industry with a rejuvenating burst of talent. We are ridiculously excited to welcome them to our company—and the mainframe world.

We foresee this program expanding to include all mainframe operating systems and educate future systems programmers, technical support staff, and sales engineers. Also, CSI International envisions when we can offer this educational experience to you—our clients and partners in our industry.

Paying It Forward During Challenging Times

This year was a year full of challenges and surprises for most of us around the globe. During the difficult times, CSI made a commitment to you, our community of customers, partners, and distributors, to provide continuous support. Our staff made adjustments to meet your needs while maintaining a safe work environment.

During these turbulent times, CSI, grateful to be an organization still able to employee its staff and serve its larger community, presented our staff with monies from which to pay it forward.

These are some of the ways that our staff has spread kindness this year.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

This is a non-profit organization that focuses on animal conservation and education, whose primary revenue comes from daily visitors. The CSI donation helped to provide support for the daily animal needs.

Grace Clinic Delaware

The CSI staff donation allowed the Grace Clinic to add lab equipment to provide more extensive hemoglobin tests so their patients could avoid lab visits to the hospital.

Some Staff Spread the Love

Some staff spread their donations across several organizations and people by donating to local food banks and an animal rescue sanctuary, while also making it more personal by paying it forward to the servers at a favorite local pizza joint.

Another staff member spread her donations between the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), Ohio Restaurant Employee Relief Fund , and the American Red Cross

On behalf of the Baroda American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion, I would like to express our sincere thanks to CSI International and your employee, [...]. Toward the beginning of the Covid pandemic, your company sent additional funds home with your employees to support their local communities.

[Your staff] knew that our local veterans organizations were limited in what fundraisers they could perform due to the impact of the pandemic, so he chose to donate the money to us. We reached out to our local VA Hospital to see what items they needed most. Because of the generosity of CSI International and [your staff], we were able to donate over $500 worth of sweatshirts, sweatpants, shower shoes, and activity books to the Battle Creek VA Hospital.

On behalf of those veterans that are in long term care at the VA Hospital, we thank you!

Our Commitment During COVID-19

Dear Valued Clients and Vendors:

My thoughts are with you as we endure the hardships that the next few weeks will bring. Rest assured that CSI has taken swift action to ensure that you receive from us the responsible service on which your organization depends. Many of you are restricted in your movements and usual business practices due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our company now faces similar restrictions. In order to serve our clients and vendors and to protect the health of our employees and our communities, we have implemented the following protocols for each area of our business.

Technical support and development staff have worked from home for several years now. You should not see any disruption in these services. All employees in these departments have remote access to any tools and resources that they might need to address client issues.

Data center support is restricted to only necessary employees. These employees have a coordinated schedule that prevents more than one person at a time in the data center. While this schedule may—in unusual circumstances—cause a slight delay for access to our hardware, this delay should be minimal, if indeed it occurs.

The sales team has been working remotely for many years also. Work flows that involve sales will continue as in the past. On-site sales calls have been suspended for the next month. Any planned visits after that are contingent on review of the current community standards both for the sales executive and the client.

The administrative staff transitioned last week to remote work. Almost all of these important tasks can be accomplished in such a manner. For the rare times that an administrative employee needs access to the office, the director of administration has devised a schedule for physical visits to our offices. Each administrative employee has a time period whereby they can enter their office privately—with no other employee on site. This allows our administrative staff access to documents and other items that are not accessible from home.

According to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security–Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, CSI is an essential critical infrastructure employer. This allows our administrative and our data center employees to travel to work sites unimpeded.

I know that your companies’ missions are vital to your communities and your countries. Rest assured that CSI is here to support those missions as we have always done in the past.
