NFS Network File System
NFS (Network File System) augments your TCP/IP for VSE installation with data transparency to other systems and ease of access to z/VSE data without requiring programming, at either the client or the z/VSE-based server.
- Allows you to mount the z/VSE file system to any other operating system that runs an NFS client
- Removes the requirement for end users to understand z/VSE files—with NFS, users can access mainframe data without any knowledge of VSAM, libraries, or POWER
- Adds the following functionality to your z/VSE and networking environment:
- Client-server functionality with no programming—read and write z/VSE files with standard PC or -Unix tools without having to do any complicated client-server code
- Web-based access to files without putting the z/VSE system on the net—NFS allows NT- and Unix-resident Web browsers to access z/VSE data in CGI applications or in standard URLs
- Supports I/O operations to z/VSE libraries, VSAM files, and POWER data queues
- NFS is an optional product that is included with your TCP/IP for VSE distribution—simply obtain a product key code for activation
